Tips for Keeping Your Room Organised on Campus

61Views

Living on campus can be a new challenge and there will be so many new things that you will have to get used to. This may be the first time you are living away from home and one of the things you will need to learn is how to maintain organisation and cleanliness in your room.

There are so many ways that a clean and well-organised room can affect your mind.

Having a clean workspace has a positive impact on your wellbeing and academic performance as well. When you have an organised space, you will be more inclined to sit at your desk and start studying. The first thing you need to do is start with a clean slate. You can read the policies regarding UQ accommodation to see what you can bring to the room and how you are expected to behave in campus housing. Once you get to your room, don’t start to unpack or organise right away. Start with cleaning all the surfaces in the room. This can be wiping down certain surfaces, dusting and vacuuming the floors. This will give you a solid place to start from. Now that your room is clean, you can start to move forward. We all have things that are not needed.

There are certain items that you will no longer use or not have an emotional attachment to.

These can be donated or sold so that these are not taking up unnecessary space in your room. A college room can be quite small and compact and it can look increasingly crowded when you have a lot of unnecessary things. And organising all of this will take more time. So you have to declutter from time to time. There are also certain storage solutions you can use to make your space more organised. Under bed organisers will help you utilise the unused space below your bed. There are drawers that can be installed there or storage with wheels so that you can easily pull it out. Also, hooks and shelves are a great way to utilise vertical space.

Try to zone your room into certain areas so that you can categorise the storage.

This makes it easier to find what you are looking for. When you have a space for everything, you can always return items to these storage spaces so that your space is not cluttered.Maintain a daily routine to keep your room clean. By doing small things every day, you can make sure that your room is looking spotless always. For example, once you wake up, you can make the bed. And before you go to sleep, you can make sure that you put away items so that you wake up to a clean room. This will put you in a good mood for the rest of the day as well. When you do a little every day, you will never have to encounter a large mess. And it can be good to have a minimalistic décor in your room as this will make it easy to clean things.
